What is interactive video for lead generation?

A plain-English definition of interactive video, how routes turn viewers into scored leads, and why passive players leave money on the table.

Interactive video is video a viewer acts inside of. Choices, questions, quizzes, and capture forms appear in the player itself, and what the viewer does changes what happens next. Instead of one linear playback for everyone, each viewer takes their own path through the story.

That one change turns a video from a broadcast into a conversation. And conversations, unlike broadcasts, produce something you can act on: answers.

The problem with passive video

A normal player has one job: show the video, count the view. The buyer who is ready today and the skeptic who needs six more proof points get the identical pitch, in the identical order, at the identical speed. A few convert. Most vanish. And the player tells you nothing about who was who.

Every one of those viewers was a signal. Someone paid for that attention, in ad spend or in the work of earning it, and a passive player drops the signal on the floor.

How an interactive route works

Five things happen inside one player:

  • Ask. The video pauses at a decision point and asks a question: what do you sell, what are you trying to grow, which problem sounds like yours.
  • Route. The answer changes the path. The skeptic gets proof. The buyer gets the offer. Nobody sits through the part that was never for them.
  • Capture. At the moment of peak interest, the player asks for an email, inside the story, not on a form bolted underneath.
  • Score. Watch depth, choices, and answers add up to an intent score. Leads arrive ranked, with their whole journey attached.
  • Learn. Drop-off points, answer breakdowns, and per-question analytics show exactly where interest spikes and where it dies.

Why this matters for paid traffic

Ad platforms optimize toward whatever signal you feed them. Feed them views and they find you viewers. Feed them real actions, choices made, questions answered, gates completed, and they find you buyers. Interactive video generates exactly those signals as a by-product of people simply watching, and platforms like StreamAgent stream them to Meta, Google, TikTok, and LinkedIn browser-side and through each platform’s Conversions API on the server. That is why the economics of the same ad budget change.

And the player is only one layer

In a full platform, the interactive player is the visible tip. Underneath it, Smart Rotations put versions of a video behind one link and promote whichever captures more leads. Lead intelligence turns every viewer’s behavior and answers into an intent score and a ranked call sheet. And the workspace connects to your AI assistant, so instead of reading dashboards you ask which video is printing leads and get an answer from your real data. Interactive video is the front door. The compounding happens behind it.

What it is not

Interactive video is not a gimmick layer of buttons for the sake of buttons, and it is not a replacement for good footage. A route is only as persuasive as the video underneath it. What the route adds is structure: the right moment to ask, a path for every answer, and a record of everything that happened.

It is also not a production project. Existing footage works, VSLs, webinar replays, demos, and when a path needs a clip you do not have yet, you script it and record it in the built-in studio, teleprompter and all, without leaving the browser. A visual editor does the arming. The working rule: if you can build a slide deck, you can build a route.

One platform, seven layers

This article covered one slice. The machine ships whole: record it, get it found, arm it, test it, rank the leads, train the ads, and ask your AI how it is going.

Common questions

What is interactive video?
Interactive video is video a viewer acts inside of: choices, questions, quizzes, and capture forms appear in the player itself, and what the viewer does changes what happens next. Instead of one linear playback for everyone, each viewer takes their own path.
How does interactive video generate leads?
The player asks for the viewer’s email at a moment of peak interest, inside the story. Because every choice and answer is recorded, each lead arrives with context: what they watched, what they chose, and how engaged they were. Platforms like StreamAgent score that behavior automatically.
Do viewers actually interact with videos?
Yes. People answer polls in stories, vote in live chats, and take quizzes constantly. Inside a story they care about, a question is the most interesting thing on screen. What viewers skip are forms bolted underneath a player with nothing offered in return.
Do I need new videos to use interactive video?
Not always. Interactive layers sit on top of footage you already have: VSLs, webinar replays, demos, and screen recordings all work. Branch clips are usually new, and they are the easy part: the structure tells you what each one needs to say, and you can script and record them in the built-in studio with a teleprompter.
